{"id":2196,"date":"2020-01-02T10:09:07","date_gmt":"2020-01-02T18:09:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nowellfamily.org\/cookbook\/?p=2196"},"modified":"2023-10-14T21:37:01","modified_gmt":"2023-10-14T21:37:01","slug":"apple-cinnamon-turnover","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nowellfamily.org\/cookbook\/2020\/01\/02\/apple-cinnamon-turnover\/","title":{"rendered":"Apple Cinnamon Turnover"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5 style=\"text-align: center;\">Yield: 6 Turnovers<\/h5>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\">Adapted from <a href=\"https:\/\/entertainingwithbeth.com\/apple-cinnamon-pastries\/\">Entertaining With Beth<\/a><\/h6>\n<p><strong>For Filling:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">2<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">TBS sugar<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">\u00bc<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">tsp cinnamon<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">1<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">cup diced apples, skin on (to preserve the pectin)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">3<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">TBS raisins (optional)<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">1<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">egg beaten<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">1<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">package of store-bought puff pastry sheets<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>For Glaze:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">1<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">TBS powdered sugar<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">1-2<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">tsp heavy cream<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nPreheat<\/strong> oven to 400\u00b0F<\/p>\n<p><strong>Filling:<\/strong> In a small bowl combine the <strong>sugar<\/strong> with the <strong>cinnamon<\/strong> and set aside.<\/p>\n<p>In a medium-sized bowl add the <strong>apples<\/strong> if using, the <strong>cinnamon sugar<\/strong> and the <strong>raisins.<\/strong> Toss well to combine and set aside.<\/p>\n<p>Beat 1 <strong>egg<\/strong> until combined.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Assemble:<\/strong> Roll out <strong>puff pastry<\/strong> onto a <strong>floured<\/strong> surface. Cut into 3\u201d by 2\u201d rectangles. Using a pastry brush, brush the <strong>egg wash<\/strong> around the perimeter of each rectangle.<\/p>\n<p>Fill one half with a scoop (about 1\u00bd TBS) of the <strong>apple mixture<\/strong>. Top with 2nd half of <strong>pastry<\/strong> and seal shut using the tines of a fork, pressing down into the <strong>pastry<\/strong> all the way around.<\/p>\n<p>Brush <strong>pastry<\/strong> tops with <strong>egg wash,<\/strong> and then make 4-5 slits across the <strong>apple<\/strong> mound for ventilation. Transfer with a <strong>floured<\/strong> spatula to a parchment lined cookie sheet.<\/p>\n<p>These can all be made in advance, wrapped tightly with foil and popped in the fridge or freezer until ready to be baked.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bake:<\/strong> Bake for 30-35 mins, depending on it they were frozen or not, if frozen they will most likely take the full 35 mins. If not frozen bake for 25-30 mins. If not freezing before baking, do take the time to firm up the dough by popping your tray in the fridge for 20 mins, freezer for 10 mins, otherwise the pastry can melt too quickly in the oven and lose its shape.<\/p>\n<p>Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Glaze:<\/strong> Meanwhile in a small bowl and the <strong>powdered sugar<\/strong> and <strong>heavy cream<\/strong> and whisk with a fork until smooth. Start with 1 tsp, if too thick add the 2nd tsp.<\/p>\n<p>Drizzle the <strong>glaze<\/strong> on the <strong>pastries<\/strong> with a fork in a zig-zag motion.
