Easy and flavorful, it only takes about 30 minutes to put together.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">12<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">shrimp (21-25), defrosted if frozen<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">8<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">oz penne, rotini or other pasta <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">1<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">head broccoli, trimmed into small florets<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">4<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">TBS extra-virgin olive oil, divided<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">4<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">TBS butter<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">4-6<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">large cloves garlic, sliced thin<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">\u00bd<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">cup dry white wine<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"id-ingredient-name\">fresh basil, chiffonade or chopped fine<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">1<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">pinch <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>red chili flakes<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"id-ingredient-name\">salt &amp; freshly ground black pepper<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In a large pot, add 1 quart of <strong>water<\/strong> and bring to a boil. <strong>Salt<\/strong> the <strong>water<\/strong> and cook the <strong>pasta<\/strong> until al dente. DO NOT DRAIN. Use a spider to remove the pasta to a bowl. Stir a couple of TBS of <strong>olive oil<\/strong> into the <strong>pasta.<\/strong> Reserve a half cup of <strong>pasta water<\/strong> and set aside.<\/p>\n<p>Add the <strong>broccoli<\/strong> to the boiling <strong>water.<\/strong> Cook until just tender, 2 to 3 minutes. Drain, chill with cold water and set aside.<\/p>\n<p>Return the pot to the burner and reduce heat to medium.<\/p>\n<p>Add 4 TBS <strong>butter<\/strong> to the pot and melt. Add the <strong>garlic<\/strong> to the pan. Sizzle until aromatic, about 30 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Add the <strong>prawns<\/strong> and a pinch of <strong>salt<\/strong> and cook until pink on both sides, about 2 minutes on each side. Transfer to a plate and set aside.<\/p>\n<p>Return the <strong>pasta, broccoli, shrimp, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">red pepper flakes<\/span><\/strong> and the half cup of <strong>reserved pasta water<\/strong> to the pot and stir to combine. Cook for a couple of minutes so the <strong>water<\/strong> reduces.<\/p>\n<p>Add the <strong>basil,<\/strong> mix and add more <strong>olive oil<\/strong> to taste.<\/p>\n<p>Season to taste with <strong>salt<\/strong> and <strong>pepper.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yield: 2 Scott Nowell A simple pasta with shrimp and broccoli.
