Recipe is simplified by using purchased sausage, adding mushrooms, fresh thyme and Worcestershire sauce.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">2<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">TBS butter<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">4<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">oz button mushrooms, finely chopped<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">1<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">TBS Worcestershire sauce<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">1<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">TBS fresh thyme<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">1<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">lb sweet Italian sausage, uncased<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">1<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">sheet prepared puff pastry<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">1<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">large egg beaten with a tsp of water<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"id-ingredient-name\">sesame seeds to garnish<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nHeat<\/strong> oven to 375\u00b0F and line rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.<\/p>\n<p>Melt the <strong>butter<\/strong> in a large frying pan and fry the <strong>mushrooms<\/strong> until soft. Transfer to a large bowl. Add the <strong>Worcestershire sauce, thyme<\/strong> and <strong>sausage meat<\/strong> and season well with <strong>salt<\/strong> and freshly <strong>ground black pepper.<\/strong> Mix with a fork until thoroughly combined.<\/p>\n<p>Divide the mixture in two and tightly roll each half in plastic wrap to form logs the length of the <strong>puff pastry.<\/strong> Set aside in the refrigerator.<\/p>\n<p>From a package of <strong>puff pastry,<\/strong> break the sheet along the seams into 3 pieces. Set the pieces on a sheet of parchment.<\/p>\n<p>Split one of the pieces in half lengthwise and use the halves to make the other two pieces wider. Roll width wise to widen the sheets. This makes them fit around the meat better.<\/p>\n<p>Remove the top sheet of parchment and press the long edges to thin the <strong>pastry.<\/strong> Place the <strong>sausage logs<\/strong> onto one edge of the pastry sheets and roll up the pastry to form a log. <strong>Egg wash<\/strong> the last inch before finished rolling to seal the seam.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5421 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nowellfamily.org\/cookbook\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2020\/12\/sr3.jpg?resize=300%2C117\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"117\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nowellfamily.org\/cookbook\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2020\/12\/sr3.jpg?resize=300%2C117&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nowellfamily.org\/cookbook\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2020\/12\/sr3.jpg?resize=768%2C301&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nowellfamily.org\/cookbook\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2020\/12\/sr3.jpg?resize=604%2C236&amp;ssl=1 604w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nowellfamily.org\/cookbook\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2020\/12\/sr3.jpg?w=833&amp;ssl=1 833w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Place back on parchment and place in freezer for 10 minutes to stiffen dough.<\/p>\n<p>Lightly <strong>flour<\/strong> board and paint each log with <strong>egg wash<\/strong> and sprinkle with <strong>sesame seeds.<\/strong> Cut each log into 8 pieces.<\/p>\n<p>Place on a Silpat lined baking sheet. Press the top of each to slightly flatten to prevent them from falling over and bake in a 375\u00b0F oven until <strong>sausage rolls<\/strong> are golden-brown, about 30 minutes.
