{"id":55388,"date":"2025-07-28T23:02:35","date_gmt":"2025-07-28T23:02:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nowellfamily.org\/cookbook\/?p=55388"},"modified":"2025-07-28T23:02:35","modified_gmt":"2025-07-28T23:02:35","slug":"hunan-shrimp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nowellfamily.org\/cookbook\/2025\/07\/28\/hunan-shrimp\/","title":{"rendered":"Hunan Shrimp"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\">Yield: 4<\/h4>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\">https:\/\/www.whiskaffair.com\/hunan-shrimp-recipe\/#recipe<\/h6>\n<p>Hunan Shrimp is a delicious Chinese-style preparation where juicy shrimp are coated in a hot and spicy sauce.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">1<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">lb shrimp, cleaned and deveined<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">\u00bc<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">cup cornstarch (divided)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">4<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">TBS vegetable oil (divided)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">2<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">tsp minced garlic<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">1<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">cup broccoli florets<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">\u00bd<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">cup thinly sliced celery<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">1<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">red bell pepper (cored, seeded and cut into \u00bd inch cubes)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">\u00bd<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">cup chicken broth<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">2<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">TBS dark soy sauce<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">2<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">TBS oyster sauce<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">2<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">tsp rice vinegar<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">1<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">tsp honey<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">\u00bd<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">tsp salt<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">\u00bc<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">tsp black pepper powder<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">2<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">tsp red chili paste<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Fry the shrimp: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Transfer cleaned and deveined <strong>shrimp<\/strong> to a medium mixing bowl. Pat them dry using a kitchen towel.<\/p>\n<p>Add 2 TBS <strong>cornstarch<\/strong> and toss well to coat each <strong>shrimp<\/strong> with <strong>cornstarch<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Heat a flat wide pan over high heat. Once the pan is hot, add 2 TBS of <strong>vegetable oil<\/strong> to it.<\/p>\n<p>Add the <strong>shrimp<\/strong> to the pan and spread them in a single layer. You want the <strong>shrimp<\/strong> to fry not steam; hence it is important to use a wide pan. I used a 12-inch pan for one pound of <strong>shrimp.<\/strong> If you are scaling the recipe, then fry them in batches.<\/p>\n<p>Stir the <strong>shrimp<\/strong> occasionally while cooking and fry until nicely browned from both sides (4-5 minutes).
