Add the <strong>onions<\/strong> and cook, stirring frequently, until the <strong>onions<\/strong> are softened and translucent, about 5 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Turn the heat up to medium and add the <strong>tomato paste, garlic,<\/strong> and <strong>rice,<\/strong> cook, stirring frequently, for about 3 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Add 1\u00bd cups of <strong>chicken broth,<\/strong> 1 tsp <strong>salt, pepper<\/strong> to taste, \u00bd tsp <strong>chili powder,<\/strong> and \u00bd tsp\u00a0<strong>cumin,<\/strong> turn the heat up and bring to a boil.<\/p>\n<p>Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer until all the <strong>liquid<\/strong> is absorbed, about 16-20 minutes.
