{"id":568,"date":"2017-11-18T10:08:12","date_gmt":"2017-11-18T18:08:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nowellfamily.org\/cookbook\/?p=568"},"modified":"2023-10-18T15:59:20","modified_gmt":"2023-10-18T15:59:20","slug":"dads-french-toast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nowellfamily.org\/cookbook\/2017\/11\/18\/dads-french-toast\/","title":{"rendered":"Dad\u2019s French Toast"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5 style=\"text-align: center;\">Yield: 2 Servings<\/h5>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\">Scott Nowell<\/h6>\n<p>This combination started many a weekend morning.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">4<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">slices bread<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">2<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">eggs<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">2<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">TBS milk<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">\u00bd<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">tsp sugar<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"id-ingredient-name\">pinch cinnamon <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"id-ingredient-name\">pinch salt<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"id-ingredient-name\">extra sugar<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">1<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">TBS butter<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Heat<\/strong> large frying pan over medium high heat.<\/p>\n<p>Beat <strong>eggs<\/strong> in flat bowl. Add <strong>milk,<\/strong> \u00bd tsp <strong>sugar, cinnamon, salt<\/strong> and beat some more.<\/p>\n<p>Add <strong>butter<\/strong> to pan. Spread around as it melts.<\/p>\n<p>Dip <strong>slice<\/strong> of <strong>bread<\/strong> in <strong>mixture,<\/strong> turn to coat well on both sides. When <strong>butter<\/strong> stops sizzling, add coated <strong>bread<\/strong> to pan. Dip additional <strong>slices<\/strong> to fill pan.<\/p>\n<p>Cook on first side until nicely browned. 3-6 minutes. Turn toast over. Sprinkle with <strong>sugar.<\/strong> When second side is brown, turn and sprinkle this side with <strong>sugar.<\/strong> Cook for 1 minute, turn and cook for additional minute. This <strong>caramelizes<\/strong> the <strong>sugar.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Remove to warm plate, <strong>butter<\/strong> and <strong>syrup<\/strong> to suit. If making a doubled (or more) batch for a bunch of people, I prefer to put a little <strong>butter<\/strong> on each piece as it comes off the stove. Stack on warm plate and serve with <strong>sausages.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4>Baked Sausages<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">1<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">lb Breakfast sausage links (fresh, not that frozen junk)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Preheat oven to 400\u00b0F.<\/p>\n<p>Line a sheet pan with parchment. Separate <strong>sausage<\/strong> links and place on baking sheet.<\/p>\n<p>Bake for 10 minutes. Turn <strong>sausages<\/strong> over. Bake for additional 8-10 minutes.<\/p>\n<h4>Bacon (Baked)<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">1<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">lb bacon <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Preheat oven to 400\u00b0F.<\/p>\n<p>Line a sheet pan with parchment and place <strong>bacon<\/strong> strips side by side. Some overlap is ok, there is a fair amount of shrinkage.<\/p>\n<p>Bake for 25 to 30 minutes to desired crispness.<\/p>\n<p>Remove from oven and set pan on a safe surface and place a small heatproof dish under one side to tilt the pan.
