They are very simple and quite delicious. Make a nice gift when you get invited to dinner around the holidays.<\/p>\n<p>Supermarket staples &#8211; puff pastry and fruit jams &#8211; are transformed into delicate teatime treats that require very little effort. For gift giving, place the cookies between sheets of waxed paper or colorful tissue paper, and pack them in a pretty tin.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">1<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">17\u00bc oz package frozen puff pastry (2 sheets), thawed <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">1<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">egg beaten to blend (glaze) <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">\u00bd<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">cup (about) table, sparkling or sanding sugar<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"quantity\">\u00bd<\/span><span class=\"ingredient-name\">cup (about) assorted jams (such as raspberry, apricot and kiwi) <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"id-ingredient-name\">Powdered sugar (optional) <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nPreheat<\/strong> oven to 400\u00b0F. Lightly butter 2 heavy large baking sheets. Roll out 1 puff <strong>pastry sheet<\/strong> on lightly <strong>floured<\/strong> surface to 16&#215;13-inch rectangle. Trim edges neatly, forming 15 x12-inch rectangle. Cut rectangle into twenty 3-inch squares. Using small sharp knife, make 1-inch-long diagonal cut in all 4 comers of 1 square, cutting toward center (do not cut through center). To form <strong>pinwheels,<\/strong> fold every other point of <strong>puff pastry<\/strong> toward center of square, pressing to adhere.<\/p>\n<p>Repeat with remaining <strong>puff pastry squares.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Brush <strong>pinwheels<\/strong> lightly with <strong>egg glaze.<\/strong> Sprinkle each with \u00bd tsp of <strong>table<\/strong> or <strong>sparkling sugar.<\/strong> Place scant \u00bd tsp <strong>jam<\/strong> in center of each. Transfer to prepared baking sheet. Bake until <strong>pinwheels<\/strong> are golden and puffed, about 13 minutes. Using metal spatula, transfer <strong>cookies<\/strong> to rack and cool. Repeat with remaining <strong>puff pastry sheet, glaze, sugar<\/strong> and <strong>jam.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sprinkle <strong>cookies<\/strong> with one of the <strong>sugars,<\/strong> if desired.<\/p>\n<p>Can be prepared ahead.
