1235 | Death Notice p. 2 In Fall River Apr 21, 1927, John R., beloved husband of Rose A. (Masterson) Scanlon. Funeral from his late residence, 6 Sumner Street, Taunton Monday Apr 25 at 8 o'clock. Solemn high mass of requiem at the Sacred Heart Church at 9 o'clock. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Obituary p. 14 John R. Scanlon, superintendant of public buildings for the city of Taunton for the past 19 years, died this morning at the Union Hospital, Fall River, where he has been under treatment for the past two weeks. An illness of several years' duration failed to yield to an operation and little hope was held out for Mr. Scanlon's recovery. He was highly regarded in the community and had the respect of those with whom he came in contact in business, city and social affairs. His death is sincerely mourned throughout the city. Mr. Scanlon was born in East Taunton, and moved with his parents, Timothy and Mary (Brassell) Scanlon to the adjoining town of Raynham at an early age. He was educated in the public schools of Raynham. He learned the trade of stone mason, and at the time of his election as building inspector in Jan 1908, he was engaged as a general contractor. Mr. Scanlon leaves a wife, Rose A. Scanlon; a daughter, Mrs. John McMahon and two grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. Patrick F. Hanrahan, Mrs. Richard C. Abbott and Alice D. Scanlon, and two brothers, Thomas and Joseph, all of Taunton. He lived at 9 Summer Street. | SCANLON, John R. (I5359)

1238 | Digital photos of entries were attached to an email to me, dated 21 Jan 2013, in which Susan Wieferich wrote, "...This is probably as good a time as any to point out that the Bible clearly lists Margaret's marriage to James Heartz as Dec 9, 1875, and Florence's birth as Dec. 18, 1876. So far, so good. However, the original Marriage Certificate is clearly dated December 19, 1876, and it is signed by James and Margaret, by Ellen Amos and William Heartz as witnesses, and by the minister. In fact, the date is spelled out as the "nineteenth." If the Marriage Certificate, with 5 signatures, is correct, and Florence's birth date of Dec. 18, 1876, is correct, then Margaret and James were married the day after Florence was born..." | Family: James J.
