- Capt. Elisha Goodwin's Record Book
Contributed by John Eldridge Frost of Eliot, Maine
The following entries were copied from a record book kept by Capt. Elisha Goodwin of Eliot, Maine, who recorded all the deaths he found in Eliot and surrounding towns, most of which occurred between 1820 and 1840. A few births of members of his immediate family are included...
Capt. Elisha Goodwin, farmer, shipbuilder, selectman, active in town affairs, born 22 Aug. 1776, died 27 Aug 1842, son of Daniel and Sarah (Hobbs) Goodwin. He married, 15 May 1797, Anna Libbey, by whom he had seven children who survived him. He lived on Goodwin Road and built the house now occupied by Mrs. John Goodrich, a descendant.
This record book passed from Capt. Elisha Goodwin through his daughter Anna (Goodwin) Ferguson and Sarah Hobbs (Ferguson) Raitt, to Annie Edna Raitt, who gave it in June 1942 to the contributor of this article.
