Obituary
Celia M. (Lafayette) Friend, 87, of Kingston, NH, formerly of Woburn, MA, passed away at her home, surrounded by her family on Friday, October 5. She was the wife of the late Lovine F. Friend who died in 1972.
Born and raised in Woburn, MA, she was the daughter of the late Jesse, and the late Eleanor (Gustin) Lafayette. Celia was a graduate of Woburn High School, and a longtime resident of Woburn before coming to Kingston in 1972.
Celia was an accomplished organist and pianist, playing in several churches throughout her life. She found comfort in her faith and was an active member in her church, serving as a choir director, organist and pianist.
She retired from Lucent Technologies in 1998, where she had worked as an inspector and auditor. Celia's greatest achievement during her lifetime was raising five children after being widowed in 1972. She was a strong presence in her grandchildren's lives and had a strong mind with a soft heart.
Celia is survived by three daughters, Nancy Dame, Yvonne Foster and her husband Charles, and Saundra Noury, all of Kingston, NH; and two sons, Thomas Friend and his Fiancee Kathy Cook of Epsom, NH, and Russell Friend and his wife Nancy of New Boston, NH. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at the Montvale Congregational Church, 36 Orange St., Woburn, MA on Wednesday, October 10 at 11:00 am, followed by interment at the Woodbrook Cemetery in Woburn. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Celia's memory may be made to the First Baptist Church of Brentwood, 201 North Rd., Brentwood, NH 03833. Arrangements by the Graham Funeral Home, Woburn, MA.
