According to Lester Gustin (in his 1947 book) Augustine Jean came in Spring 1675 with Peierre, Baudoin, Botirneau, Bayer, and Le Breton - "French Huguenot refugees, emigrating from France in anticipation of the revocation of the Edict of Nantes, which occurred in Oct 1685." This ended 87 years of civil and religious liberty for the Protestants of France, and caused a great wave of Protestant emigration, many of whom came to New England. However, in his 1954 book Gustin rejects the idea that Jean was a Huguenot.

Imp^r I give unto my Beloved Wife Elizabeth Gustin My Dwelling house in which I now live with the Lot of Land belonging to it lying & being in the Town of Falmouth with all my houshold goods & Moveable Estate for her vse during her Natural life & to be at her disposal to any of her Children as She Sees meet.
