NORTH BERWICK, Maine ? Ernest H. Berry, 93, widower of Ruth I. (Gerry) Berry of 1144 Lebanon Road, died Friday, March 25, 2005, at York Hospital.
He was born in Portsmouth, N.H., on Sept. 9, 1911, the son of the late Howard L. and Nellie (Hoyt) Berry.
Mr. Berry was a graduate of Portsmouth High School Class of 1930. He was a communicant of St. John?s Episcopal Church in Portsmouth. He was employed for over 40 years at the former Gunnison?s in Kittery, retiring as an automotive machinist. Mr. Berry was also a former member of the Kittery Fire Department for 28 years.
Mr. Berry had a love for woodworking and enjoyed building wooden toys for his grandchildren and for the Holly Hill Fair at St. John?s Episcopal Church.
Survivors include a son, Ralph Berry of North Berwick, and a daughter, Ruth Todd of Kittery; six grandchildren, Richard Berry of Acton, David Berry of North Berwick, Kathleen Hayes of North Berwick, Joseph Todd of Kittery, Sarah Todd of Kittery, and Christine Todd of New Bedford, Mass.; eight great-grandchildren, Dakota Berry, Shane Berry, Aric Berry, Kyle Berry, Zachary Berry, Natasha Hayes, Hannah Todd and Andrew Todd; three sisters, Madeline Berube of Portsmouth, Gertrude Bascom of Portsmouth and Helen Anania of Portsmouth; and several nieces and nephews.
A brother, Raymond Berry, and three sisters, Mabel Elwell, Marion Berry and Evelyn Brooks, predeceased him.

Funeral services will be at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth, Wednesday 10 a.m. Friends invited. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Family flowers only. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John?s Episcopal Church, Organ Fund, 101 Chapel St., Portsmouth, NH 03801 and/or the American Cancer Society, Gail Singer Memorial Building, 360 State Rte. 101 Suite 501, Bedford, NH 03110-5032. Interment will be in Brooks Memorial Cemetery at a later date.
