The death of Nelson A. Bennett one of our well known and respected citizens occurred at his home on Elm St. Monday afternoon at 5:20 o'clock. He had been ill for some time although he had not been confined to the house until a few days before his death. For some time he had been suffering from a liver complaint but a few weeks agao it was fornd that he had cancer of the stomach and it was this complication that hastened his death. Mr. Bennett was born in So. Sanford December 5, 1839 and was the oldest son of Horace and Sally O. Bennett. As a young man he worked in Millwaukee as a shoe cutter for a few years. Later he went to Boston where he worked for Dr. Treadwell of Cambridge as florist. Moving to Sanford he entered the employ of Thomas Goodall for whom he worked as gardener for over 27 years. He was Married to Abbie J. Nowell daughter of Samuel and Emily Nowell. To them were born four children Harry E., Carrie E., Harry E. and Fannie H., all of which are deceased except the third mentioned who survives. Besides a large circle of friends he leaves a wife Abbie E., two brothers Horace V. and Walter E. and one sister Mrs. Moses Moulton. He wsa a very familiar figure on our streets and will be greatly missed by his many friends.
