- MOULTONBOROUGH — Kenneth Robert Canaway, 70, passed away on July 28, 2017, after a period of declining health.
Ken was born in Medford, Massachusetts, on Nov. 13, 1946, to Hebert J. and Rita B. (Smith) Canaway, and graduated from Woburn Memorial High School, Woburn, Massachusetts in 1964. He studied electrical engineering at Lowell Tech.
Ken spent his career contributing to the success of many small- to medium-sized businesses through his expertise in business operations, strategic planning, business development, information technology and exit strategy management. As a senior executive with New England Business Service (NEBS), DM Management (J Jill Group), Sabanek Associates (Keepsake Quilting), Vutek, New Hampshire, Business Sales and Association Solutions, he enjoyed a very rewarding career.
Several of Ken's proudest professional contributions were as a founding member, past chairman and board member of the Belknap County Economic Development Council, as well as several years as chairman of the Meredith Area Chamber of Commerce. At the pinnacle of his career, he served as president of the New England Mail Order Association and was a sought-after expert in the area of distribution center management and operations.
In his personal life, he had a passion for youth athletics with his children, golf and all New England sports teams. In his 20s, he served with distinction as a volunteer firefighter with the Woburn Volunteer Fire Department and a state Test Captain for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Ken is survived by his son, Kenneth R. Canaway Jr., and his wife, Meredith, of Cumming, Georgia; daughter, Susan Simanski and her husband, Jeffrey, of Ashburn, Virginia; grandchildren, Emily and Andrew Canaway of Cumming, Georgia; nephews Robert, Jason and Christopher Canaway, as well as former longtime partner/friend, Leslie Davis Sturgeon of Bristol.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Robert and Herbert Canaway.
Services will be private.
